Walnut Pistachio Baklava

Posted by Manjeri Skincare Team on

Benefits: This rich, layered dessert offers more than indulgence. Walnuts and pistachios are packed with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, which help support skin elasticity and protect against oxidative stress. Honey provides natural antibacterial properties that can support skin clarity, while the healthy fats in nuts help maintain moisture levels, giving the skin a smoother, more supple appearance from within.

Skin Concern: Loss of elasticity and oxidative stress

Prep Time: 25 minutes | Cook Time: 45 minutes | Serves: 6–8

Ingredients:

  • 1 package phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

For the Syrup:

  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Nut Filling: In a bowl, combine chopped walnuts, pistachios, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
  • Layer the Phyllo: Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Layer 6–8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet lightly with butter before adding the next.
  • Add the Filling: Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo. Continue layering phyllo sheets and nuts, repeating until all ingredients are used, finishing with a top layer of phyllo.
  • Cut Before Baking: Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.
  • Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  • Make the Syrup: While baking, combine honey, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Finish: Pour warm syrup evenly over hot baklava. Allow to cool completely so it absorbs the syrup.
  • Serve: Garnish with crushed pistachios and serve.

Shopping Tips:

  • Choose fresh, unsalted nuts for better flavor and nutrient quality
  • Use high-quality honey for added skin benefits
  • Ensure phyllo dough is fully thawed to prevent tearing

Cooking Tips:

  • Keep phyllo covered with a damp towel while working to prevent drying
  • Use a sharp knife to cut clean layers before baking
  • Let baklava rest for several hours for best texture and flavor

This decadent, nut-filled dessert delivers both indulgence and skin-supporting nutrients for a balanced, glow-worthy treat.
