Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Posted by Manjeri Skincare Team on

Benefits: These creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes provide comforting nourishment while supporting skin hydration and resilience. Potatoes are rich in potassium, which helps maintain fluid balance and skin hydration, while dairy adds fats and protein that support a smooth, supple complexion. Garlic contributes antioxidants that help protect the skin from environmental stress and support overall skin health.

Skin Concern: Dryness and dehydration

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 1 hour | Serves: 6

Ingredients:

For the Potatoes:

  • 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk or cream

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

  • ½ tsp sea salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Sauce: Preheat oven to 375°F. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, then whisk in flour to form a roux. Gradually add milk or cream, whisking until smooth and thickened. Stir in half of the cheddar cheese, parmesan, salt, and pepper.

  • Layer the Potatoes: Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour some sauce over the layer, then repeat layers until all potatoes and sauce are used.

  • Top and Bake: Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  • Serve: Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Shopping Tips:

  • Choose starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for a creamy texture

  • Use high-quality cheese for better melting and flavor

  • Opt for fresh garlic instead of pre-minced for stronger antioxidant benefits

Cooking Tips:

  • Slice potatoes evenly for consistent cooking

  • Let the dish rest before serving to help it set

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra depth of flavor

This rich, comforting dish brings together creamy texture and nourishing ingredients, making it a satisfying addition to any meal while supporting your glow from within.
