Sautéed Swiss Chard with Shallots

Posted by Manjeri Skincare Team on

Benefits: This simple yet nutrient-dense dish is packed with minerals and antioxidants that support detoxification and skin clarity. Swiss chard is rich in magnesium and vitamin K, which help reduce stress-related skin flare-ups and support overall skin balance. Shallots provide sulfur compounds that assist in detox pathways, helping to clear impurities that can contribute to breakouts. Olive oil adds healthy fats that improve nutrient absorption and support a smooth, hydrated complexion.

Skin Concern: Sensitive skin and redness

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 10 minutes | Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard, stems removed and leaves chopped
  • 2 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Chard: Wash thoroughly and chop leaves into bite-sized pieces, separating thick stems if using.
  • Sauté the Shallots: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add sliced shallots and cook until soft and lightly caramelized, about 4–5 minutes.
  • Add Garlic and Chard: Stir in garlic and cook briefly until fragrant, then add Swiss chard. Toss gently as it wilts down.
  • Finish the Dish: Season with salt, pepper, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook until tender but still vibrant.
  • Serve: Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy warm.

Shopping Tips:

  • Choose Swiss chard with deep green leaves and firm stems
  • Shallots should be firm with no soft spots or sprouting
  • Fresh lemon enhances both flavor and vitamin C content

Cooking Tips:

  • Do not overcook chard to preserve its nutrients and color
  • Add a splash of water if needed to help steam and soften leaves
  • Finish with a drizzle of olive oil for extra richness

This light, mineral-rich side dish supports calm, balanced skin while adding a fresh, vibrant element to any meal.
